Private Family Burial will be held Tuesday, January 3rd at 1pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Fl. He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis his daughter Krystal Lighty (Luther III) of Columbia, MD his stepson Philip Smith (Ebony) of Daytona Beach, FL his siblings Peggy Jones of Baltimore, MD, and Mary Stewart of Salisbury, MD his grandchildren Keyana Porter-Coleman (Keith), Luther Lighty IV, Maurice Smith, and Ashton Smith his goddaughter Kamyra and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, respected colleagues, co-laborers in ministry, and friends. Jack was preceded in death by two siblings, Richard Allen and Doris Allen Downing. His legacy and the abundant love he shared will now be multiplied in the hearts of all those privileged to have known him. Even after he became ill, he still took care of his family by providing wise counsel or financial support. He was affectionately known as “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren, and always had an encouraging word and firm correction when needed. Jack talked with his sisters, daughter, and granddaughter in Maryland nearly every day, just to check in and say he loved them. They spent time sharing memories of their youth, taking long drives, watching movies, and spending peaceful moments sitting on the front porch. Jack and Phyllis enjoyed every day together. They fell in love, were married in 2006 and their new life began.Īs a devoted husband and father, Jack enjoyed spending time with family. After a few conversations and dates, a whirlwind romance ensued. It was after visiting and later joining the church that Jack was introduced to Phyllis Smith. He was deeply into the Word, and always started his day reading scripture. ![]() He served in multiple capacities as a faithful member. He was a member of the New Heart Christian Center in Daytona Beach and worked with the finance committee. ![]() He cherished his relationship with the Lord. Jack’s religious foundation began early in life. He left a tremendous impact on the lives of his students. He continued his passion for education and sports, working in the Volusia County public schools for nearly three decades as an educator and football coach at Seabreeze and New Smyrna Beach High Schools. Jack moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1976. From that union Krystal, his only child, was born. During this time, Jack met and married Diana Trent, who preceded him in death. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UMES in 1973.Īfter graduation, Jack moved to Philadelphia, where he worked as a substitute teacher and other various jobs. After leaving the Army, Jack attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), where he again played baseball. Shortly after graduation, Jack was drafted into the US Army, where he served in the Vietnam War. He attended Worcester County, MD public schools and graduated from Worcester High School in 1965, where he played on the baseball and basketball teams. Not only did Jack share his name, but also his love of sports, particularly baseball. Jack was named after the first black Major League baseball player, Jackie Robinson. On Christmas Day, December 25, 2022, after a courageous battle with health challenges, he was called to live eternally with our Lord. Jackie “Jack” Allen was born on December 19, 1947, in Snow Hill, MD. ![]()
